Wednesday's Dose - February 6th 2013

And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. - Genesis 3:4-5.
"Walk to Boomers!" the real estate ad for a house boasted. I was a Realtor®, and the house mentioned in the ad was my listing.
The goal of a good ad is to produce produce as many incoming calls as possible. The idea for this ad came from my broker and produced more queries than any other ad the company ran while I worked there. More calls means a faster sale, and this house sold within two weeks.
But the ad was a lie, if only a partial lie. Yes, the house really was located
only a block and a half from Boomers. The deceitful part was that Boomers was just a small neighborhood pub, whose entire clientele lived within a two-mile radius.
No one would have called if the ad revealed that Boomers was a local bar. We wouldn't have received as many calls as we did if the ad merely boasted the home's amenities.
Every effective lie contains enough truth that we let down our guard and react to it. The serpent didn't lie to the woman, but, like the real estate ad, he provided unnecessary information so he could influence her to eat from God's tree. The unnecessary information was knowledge of evil. Since only good existed in God's garden, the Man and Woman had no need to know about good or evil.
Not all lies are intentional. Many are unintentional. People misinterpret what
we say, or we misuse words and convey a message that differs from what we mean.
Some lies are intentional without intending harm, such as the one in the real
estate ad. That lie benefited my client, who needed a fast sale, as well as the caller who needed to find a new place to live. The ad started a conversation about the main drawback of the house, which was its close proximity to the bar, before making an appointment to see the house. Trying to hide the fact that the house was located near a bar would have been intentionally deceitful with the possibility of causing harm.
The serpent's lie clearly had harmful intent toward God and the humans. Therefore, the serpent's lie was intentionally evil.
Prayer: "Our Loving Heavenly Father, your precepts protect us from evil. Your truth is all we need. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, In Jesus Loving Name I Pray, Amen."
Have a Blessed Wednesday and God Bless you.
