Thursday's Dose - November 21st 2013

And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. - Genesis 2:15.

My neighborhood had no children my age to play with during the summer. So, to give me something to do, my dad hired me to work in his office. He was a dentist.

At 11 years old, I had no concept of work. I thought work was like play, so I spent the first day or so watching Dad `play' with people's teeth. After that, though, everything was all business.

He had a busy practice and his office offered no to play children's games. He taught me the names of the utensils and how to slap them into his palm when he asked for them. He taught me how to sterilize dental instruments and ready the examination room for the next patient. He taught me what to say when I answered the phone. I scheduled patients, seated them, assisted my dad with them, and eventually even learned to keep the books. It wasn't play; it was serious work.

Likewise, God had work for Adam. He gave him an honorable job managing his personal garden. This put Adam in close proximity with his Creator. Adam and God would have to communicate often to ensure that Adam was meeting God's standards.

God served us by creating our wondrous universe. He continues to serve us every day with provisions and companionship. Originally, his only command was to nourish a patch of land.

Each person holds the responsibility of contributing to his or her own field of expertise. Not surprisingly, when it's work God chooses for us, we succeed.

Prayer: "Almighty God the Father, thank you for the work you provide. Grant us the wisdom to benefit those we work for and with. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, In Jesus Loving Name I Pray, Amen."

Have a Blessed Thursday and God Bless you.
