Gethsemane and The Sufferings Of Christ - Thursday's Dose - 26th October 2017

When we look at the earthly life of Jesus, we see in it, the exact opposite of the pride and selfishness that we see in Adam's race. In Christ's life we see a humility that was willing to do exactly what His Father wanted Him to do - even if it was to die on a cross. He readily chose that way - without any reservation whatsoever. Christ also selflessly thought of the needs of others and not His own - and was willing to sacrifice Himself in order to help them. This is the attitude that God wants us to have.

Jesus frequently went to Gethsemane(literally means “oil press,”) with His disciples to pray (John 18:2). When Jesus prayed in the garden of Gethsemane hours before crucifixion(Matthew 26:36-46) , the demons shook with terror. Heaven’s boundless power and strength are ours when we pray and align our will with His perfect plan.

Through all of this, Jesus was victorious! Luke 22:43; Hebrews 5:7

Are you discouraged and despondent? Pray. Do you feel defeated by sin? Pray. Does it seem as if your life and personal relationships are falling apart? Your greatest needs can be met through prayer.

Jesus turned to Peter, James and John in the garden of Gethsemane and said, "My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me" (Matt. 26; 38). He, the Son of God, needed the prayer-fellowship of His imperfect disciples.

Yet how many of us are self-sufficient! We ignore weaker members of the Body of Christ thinking that we do not need them. We only betray our spiritual poverty and blindness by such an attitude. For remember, the Bible says, "Some of the parts (of the body of Christ) that seem weakest and least important are really the most necessary" (1 Cor. 12:22 ).

At Gabbatha(John 19:13), Jesus was "Despised and rejected of men" Isaiah 53:3 Notice what He suffered for you!

* Betrayed by His own disciple, Judas and deserted by other disciples - Matthew 26:47-56

* Beaten by the Temple guards - Luke 22:63-64

* Rejected by the very people He came to save - Matt. 27:17-25; John 1:11

* Scourged - Matt. 27:26 (Ill. Furrows - Psa. 129:3)

* Mocked by the soldiers and crowned with thorns - Matt. 27:26-29

* Beard plucked from His face - Isa. 50:6

* He was condemned to die - John 19:13-16

Jesus endured all thsee pain, the agony, the suffering and the shame all because He loved you and me! (Hebrews 12:2)
At Calvary, God dealt with the sin issue fully and finally, and He did it in the body of His own darling Son!

* Stripped Naked - Matt. 27:35

* Crucified - Nailed to a cross and hung up to die - Matt. 27:35

* His own Father turns His face away from Him - Matthew 27:46

* Absolutely marred beyond belief - Isaiah 50:14

* At the cross, He took up our pain and bore our suffering - Isaiah 53:4, 6, 10-11

What an amazing savior we have! Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe, sin had left a crimson satin, He washed it white as snow!

Our Lord endured suffering all of His earthly life. He endured suffering in His identification with sinful men, and in having to “put up with” us ( Luke 9:41). He suffered in the Garden of Gethsemane, and perhaps other times as well, in anticipation of the wrath of God which He would bear (Hebrews 5:7-10). And finally He suffered the ultimate agony of the cross of Calvary.

He did what He did because of you and me! All He asks in return is that love Him and live for Him.

Our Loving Heavenly Father,
Thank You for sending Your Son to secure a place for me in Your house. Forgive me for focusing on my difficulties rather than on my overwhelming blessings in Christ. It is hard to imagine the depth of Your love for me. Thank You for dying for me. May I love others as you have loved me. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, In Jesus Loving Name I Pray,

Have a Blessed Thursday and God Bless you.
